A Year Update from the Drummer and Keyboarder

A Year Update from the Drummer and Keyboarder

hi rats!

brendan here.

it’s been almost exactly one year since we moved to portland.

and as we’re settling into our new house, we’re constantly changing the studio around to accommodate what we need from the space.

recently, we set up this little keys booth where all the keys we have in the house are accessible at any time.

we have keys here...

... and here...

... as well as here...

oh, and here!

this all started because it was uncomfortable to play the piano.

this rug kept bunching up underneath the sustain pedal.

i complained about it since we moved in.

finally, i asked sean and cassie if they would help me move the rug.

it turned into one hell-of-a project.

there was so much resting on the carpet, we had to move half the studio to pull the rug half a foot.

and while we were doing it, we decided to put all the keys in one place.

it’s made my life so much easier, and it’s inspired me to start playing and practicing keys again.

you can watch this rather long video of me goofing around and giving a bad explanation of each keyboard, or skip below for a little piano cover of “everything means nothing to me” from one of utr’s collective favorite artists, elliott smith.

chaplain holding service during wwii, a similar pump organ to the one we got recently off to the right

“everything means nothing to me”

oh, and sean wanted me to include a pic of this new rocking chair that i got from an estate sale for $1.18.

i don’t think he has moved from it once since we got it.

except for right now.

he’s in the bathroom.

which is where you will most likely find him when he’s not in this chair.

love you all.

stay positive, stay creative, stay hopeful,
b

It’s also cool hearing the back story of the old pump keyboard plus the photo of the chaplain in the war with one. 👍

Very cool, Brendan. When your living space (home) becomes a studio, there is perpetual inspiration in the air. So awesome! I lived in a space like that for years. Music = life = love. Beautiful Elliott Smith rendition! Keep creating—and always record it as it comes! Peace.!

Hey Brendan!
I heard “key warden,” so I guess that’s another new title for you. It was really interesting to see the studio space and learn more about your process!
The elliott Smith cover was beautiful, and I found the simplicity of the visual really soothing, which was so needed right now <3

P.S. Sean really is taking this old man lifestyle seriously, isn't he? Lmao
