Hi Friends.
Tomorrow I head out to California to try to get my IDs situated, particularly with regards to my gender marker.
The last time I got pulled over for a speeding ticket was quite the spectacle, especially considering the vibe of the gas-station-passersby in the western-facaded small Texas town.
I mentioned on our last voice check-in that we would be sharing some new music with y’all, so I’m here with a gift.

what is there to say about this one?
If I were to graph casey-directed public accusations of devil worshipping over time, the graph would look like a straight vertical line the day I started to allow myself to look feminine on the internet.
This can really mess with a head, an enormous influx of people equating it to the universe’s most nefarious evil, and all of a sudden to boot.
In response, for masochistic funzies, I excavated from my book piles Faust, Paradise Lost, a few translations of the Bible, the Tanakh, and even a collection of the non-canonical stories, which sat in a stack by my bed for late-nite torture.
I didn’t know what I was looking for, necessarily, just that, if I was going to be forced into the same dorm with Satan, I might as well know what furniture to bring and what he might have covered.
The song I ended up writing is a story of a person who accepts a Faustian bargain, with which they come to terms after seeing a rainbow, which is at once a symbol of queer liberation and God’s promise in Genesis.

Oddly enough, I was just trying on my mother’s old mantilla that I came across while cleaning out my bureau. I felt a twinge of Cognitive dissonance As I sat with the duality of guilt and relief.
Those feelings come up whenever I Remind myself that I No longer Participate in organized religion. I thought about the black and white thinking in the church. “you’re either with us, or you belong to the devil!” How about neither?
So Then I popped into the rat chat and saw the announcement. Now i’m here… Right we’re i’m supposed to be. I know, different song.
