PALE KING IS LAUNCHING TOMORROW—and we’re stoked you’re around to be part of it. To commemorate, we’ve put together this pre-launch FAQ page, which outlines everything you need to know about the album.

“To be, in a word, unborable…. It is the key to modern life.

If you are immune to boredom, there is literally nothing you cannot accomplish” — David Foster Wallace, The Pale King
Pale King is loosely based around David Foster Wallace’s novel, The Pale King, which is a story, more or less, about the BORING-NESS of being part a part of the modern “workforce,” stuck, doing not quite what you wanted to be doing.

The novel is hard to read, and must’ve been even harder to write (a lot of it tries to bore the reader on purpose, which makes it feel uncomfortable and real). Before he finished the novel, David Foster Wallace committed suicide; The Pale King was published posthumously.

Our album, Pale King, is about someone who can’t handle the boredom. It begins with our hero telling himself, “Button up your polo, you’re a winner.” It ends with him telling himself (on the edge of a seacliff) “Soon enough, no more pain.”
