PALE KING IS LAUNCHING TOMORROW—and we’re stoked you’re around to be part of it. To cut the ribbon with the big scissors, we’ve put together this pre-launch explanation page, which gives you a little background on what the album is about.

DID YOU KNOW?

  • Pale King is loosely based on David Foster Wallace’s novel, The Pale King, which is a story about BORING-NESS.

  • Tax forms and cubicles and highways and Peoria—The Pale King (the novel) is a suffocating treatise on modern, boring, cog-in-a-big-machine work.

  • Before he finished the novel, David Foster Wallace committed suicide; The Pale King was published posthumously.

  • Before he died, he gave this commencement address at Kenyon College. It’s a good summary of what the book, and David Wallace, are all about:
Our album, Pale King, is about someone who can’t handle the boredom.

It begins with the main character telling himself: “Button up your polo, you’re a winner,” and ends (dramatically) with his toes over the edge of a sea cliff, thinking, “Soon enough, no more pain . . . “
