SARAH'S DAYDREAM IN THE KITCHEN // 6.10.18
For our second single, we gave ourselves three days to write and record something at a cabin in the Sequoia National Forest. We knew we wanted to explore some new songwriting territory, but we couldn’t muster an idea worth having.
All of a sudden it was the morning of the second day, and what we’d managed to get between the six of us was the flu and a crumpled piece of paper that read: “I feel overwhelmed (the first lyric).”
We’re in love with Sarah. She’s a strong female character in a time where we need more of those. Take a listen. And make sure to keep an eye out for the beautiful video Andy Malcolm and Jacob Ellis put together.
THREE-LEGGED DOG // 3.23.18
After Casey’s mom, Janet Dayan, passed, the band booked an airbnb up in Pine Mountain Club, CA. Sean had just moved to Los Angeles to re-join the band, so it was the first time the whole group could get together in over a year.
Three-Legged Dog is about somebody trying to find the right place to spread someones ashes. The narrator wanders from Needles to the Dead Mountains to the Colorado river, unable to find a place that feels right.
Near Henderson he breaks down in a gutter at the bottom of a staircase, where he is moved by the sight of “an old and proud three-legged dog.”
